Becoming a member of East County CERT includes the following steps:
Tell us of your interest by providing your name and email. You will be sent a link to the online training of Step 2.
NOTE: Looking ahead... In person training slots are limited. These slots will be filled as people complete the interview step. Anyone that misses the cutoff will have priority access to the next session.
Training startes out with online lectures. It will take about 12 hours to complete and can be done at your own pace and convenience. You will receive a certificate once you have completed the training.
Once you have your certificate of completion from the online training, you can submit an application join the East County CERT. The application can be viewed TBD.
Your application will be reviewed and you will be scheduled for an on-line interview with the EC CERT administrator. This will clarify expectations of both the applicant and the program.
Next will be in person demonstrations and training to the extent permitted by social distancing guidelines. It will be conducted over three consecutive Saturdays. Specific dates will be provided to those accepted after the interview process. Note that space for in person training is limited.
All prospective members must undergo the LiveScan process and pass a background check. This will be provided at no cost to the applicant once the in person training has been completed.
Once you have passed the background check, you can be sworn in. This involves signing the Code of Conduct and agreeing to follow CERT policies.
The last bit of paperwork is to apply for your Disaster Service Worker card.
During your probationary period, you must demonstrate your commitment by participating in CERT events and exercises. You will be loaned equipment as necessary.
Once you have passed your probationary period, you will be issued your own, helmet, vest, and backpack.
